After my mom died and Dad lived alone at Scottish Rite, I would bring him a “fancy” coffee every day—latte, mocha—and he loved this routine. Then one day he didn’t drink it. He died the next day. It was a nice ritual. He was 95.5.
When my Mom was at Wesley, our coffee-time was the best part of her day--such a small thing for me, but a huge thing for her. I miss those times so much, as I'm sure you miss those times with your father. All best to you, Jan.
I love this story so much. What a very wonderful day you made for Hazel; I'm sure she told absolutely everyone at her facility about her special nieces. A great reminder that it's the simple things...
What a very sweet story. There is always a person that can use a visit. We delivered meals for the holiday and the smiles and thank you’s are all you need. A beautiful thank you note arrived this week. A kindness returned for a kindness. Just wonderful. Looking forward to Winterset!
When I wrote this, I thought of how you wrote that the trips to the garbage dump with your Grandmother were actually cherished times! I so understand that. Thanks for your note, Connie.
Thank you, Brenda! I have to say I’ve thought a lot about whether or not I should send these kinds of things out, as my promised topics are “Food” and “France.” But honestly, I think any time I post about the farm, it’s about food. I’m so glad you enjoyed it—your note means a lot to me!
The person to whom I brought lattes died unexpectedly on Saturday, and this post brought me to tears thinking about her and all the treats I did bring, and all the ones I could have, but didn’t. This is beautifully written. Thank you.
Oh we all could have done more, sure. But you did a lot! And aren't you so glad you did!
I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose that person, isn't it? Whenever I lose someone I care for in that way, I'm at sea for a while--like I've lost a bit of my a sense of purpose.
Thank you so much for your note, and I'm glad you found the post meaningful.
Beautiful❣️Tearjerker as I remember a couple of times I would have been as thoughtful as your sister. "Just one last time" ... just "one little thing" ... to us. Thank you for thoughtfully sharing this memory.

Thank you, Kim! Yes--it's all the simple things, isn't it? Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the story. It means the world to me.

Exactly. There is something unbelievably gratifying about knowing that you've made a difference in someone's day. And it takes so little!
Glad you're coming to Winterset!
I love this, Wini. Memories are priceless, and reading your story took me back to times of my childhood. P.S. I also had a cousin named Sharon.

What a wonderful “recipe”!
One of the very best you can share …..thank you, Wini ❣️

Thanks! And I hope we can attend the movie in Winterset! We never saw Storm Lake!
Please come, Jann!
