One Paris winter, we discovered "La Farandole de Gourmandises." Later, when things weren't going so well for either of us, he reminded me of our shared joy in a letter. It made a difference.
A true friend, through and through! I'm glad you enjoyed this, Lisa.
And whenever I'm faced with the kind of irritating things that can happen in you-know-where (and that you describe so hilariously!), I try remember La Farandole!
What a lovely story. I was visualizing it all and remembering my own salad days; ah, youth! But (snapping back to attention/current day), I shall serve a similar dessert platter at my next gathering—thank you for the suggestion!
I wondered if I might hear from someone who stayed at the Hotel California! It was definitely on the US traveler's itinerary, and in many travel guides at the time. We got it from Arthur Frommer's "Europe on $20 a Day" book.
By the time you went in 1992, it had been renovated. I know that because I tried to stay there in 1986, and it was closed for remodeling. When I stayed there in '84, it was very basic, but charming in that old Paris way. I bet it was quite nice when you were there!
It was very basic! My windows opened into a big square opening that was not a courtyard, just a big empty slab of concrete. It was clean and safe and close to my friend Christian Tortu’s floral shop where we were meeting for lunch!
What a wonderful and SWEET story of lasting friendship and savored joy. 💋

Thanks! Enjoy your own version of La Farandole!
I love this tale, Wini! I have also stayed overnight at (then) Hotel California in Paris in 1992!
Thank you, Susie!!!

Sounds just like it was when I went! So much for the renovations. Maybe they actually put showers in all the rooms or something. LOL!
